Business Cases
A business case is a report that is written to explain why a project should be built. It includes the benefits that a project would deliver, as well as potential risks, and analyses these factors to present a rationale for why a project should be implemented.
A business case is just one of several studies and factors that are used in making a final decision about a project. These other factors will vary by project and include broad economic objectives, local community considerations, and affordability.
Metrolinx creates business cases for major projects to secure approval before moving on to detailed project studies, such as the Transit Project Assessment Process. Business cases provide evidence to decision-makers, stakeholders, and the public as a crucial part of transparent and evidence-based decision making processes.
