Jul 18, 2024

PRESTO in Apple Wallet is here!

Add a digital PRESTO card to Apple Wallet or convert your physical PRESTO card to PRESTO in Apple Wallet and pay your transit fare with your iPhone or Apple Watch.

With PRESTO in Apple Wallet – which supports youth, post-secondary student, adult and senior fare types – you’ll be able to make changes to your card in real time, and instantly load funds and check your balance and transaction history.

There are two ways to get started.

How to add a new PRESTO in Apple Wallet card

Ensure that the latest version of the PRESTO and Apple Wallet apps are installed.

  1. Using the PRESTO app, sign into your PRESTO Account and select the "Add Card" button.
  2. Under "Buy A New Card" select "PRESTO in Apple Wallet."
  3. Review the onboarding screens and load funds or a transit pass to your new card.
  4. Add a nickname for your new card.
  5. Select "Add to Apple Wallet" to save it to your device.

How to convert your physical PRESTO card to PRESTO in Apple Wallet

Ensure the latest version of the Apple Wallet app is installed on your iPhone or Apple Watch, and that the PRESTO card has been registered to a PRESTO Account.

  1. Using the PRESTO app, sign in to your PRESTO Account and select the PRESTO card you want to convert.
  2. Select the "Convert to Apple Wallet" button.
  3. Review the next screens and select "Continue."
  4. Hold your physical card against the back of your iPhone until you see a checkmark appear on the screen. Having trouble? Make sure you have a stable network connection. You may need to remove your iPhone’s case. Make sure that the top of your iPhone is resting on your physical card and remains still.
  5. Select "Add to Apple Wallet."

Once you convert your physical PRESTO card to PRESTO in Apple Wallet, your physical PRESTO card will be cancelled.

Most of your card details will be transferred to your PRESTO card in Apple Wallet (card balance, transit passes, fare type, Autoload/Autorenew contracts, loyalty, and GO Default Trip settings). However, your transaction history will not be transferred, so you may want to download it before conversion.  Also, if you have an Autoload, Autorenew or TTC 12 Month Pass agreement set up on your physical PRESTO card through pre-authorized debit, you will need to set it up again once you’ve finished the transfer process.

How to use PRESTO in Apple Wallet

  • PRESTO in Apple Wallet can be used on GO Transit, UP Express, Brampton Transit, Burlington Transit, Durham Region Transit, Hamilton Street Railway, MiWay (in Mississauga), Oakville Transit, TTC and York Region Transit.
  • To use PRESTO in Apple Wallet, simply wake up your iPhone and tap it on a PRESTO device to pay your fare. If you are using Apple Watch, unlock it, open Apple Wallet and tap it on a PRESTO device to pay your fare. Tap with the same payment method for your entire journey, including fare inspection.
  • With Express Mode enabled on your PRESTO in Apple Wallet, you can simply tap your device on a PRESTO reader and ride — without the need to wake or unlock your device.  While you can have multiple active PRESTO cards in your Apple Wallet, only one card can be set to Express Mode.
  • PRESTO in Apple Wallet supports the transit agency transfer windows to enable transfers within and between agencies. There's no need for paper transfers.
  • Use the PRESTO app to set up Autoload, Autorenew or a TTC 12-Month Pass; load your card with a Saved Payment Method; set up a GO Default Trip; see up to three months of transaction history; and recover your registered card and balance if you lose your phone. If you have a PRESTO Account with more than one card on it, you can use the PRESTO app to manage other cards.
  • PRESTO in Apple Wallet takes full advantage of the privacy and security built into iPhone and Apple Watch. PRESTO cards stored in Wallet are private and secure, and Apple never tracks users’ journeys. Your card information is encrypted and securely stored in the Secure Element, an industry-standard, certified chip designed to store the information safely on the device. If you misplace your iPhone or Apple Watch, you can promptly use the Find My app to lock and help it.
