Bike Month 2024: How clean commuting can pay off

Join Metrolinx in celebrating two-pedal-power across the region!

Jun 5, 2024

It can be quite easy being green.

You already do it by using GO Trains, GO Buses and UP Express service, and using One Fare to get around the region. And there’s lots of everyday things too, like recycling and composting, bringing your own mug for coffee or tea, packing your own lunches, shopping at farmer’s markets and buying local.

But going green isn’t just for grown-ups. Sustainability sprouts early – and some bright young minds are already putting the wheels in motion towards a greener future.

This June, Metrolinx is proud to support Bike Month 2024 – a celebration of cycling and sustainability across the region.

What is Metrolinx doing for Bike Month?

Cycling is for everyone, and we’re doing our part to boost that encouragement at a young age.

Our dedicated Community Engagement teams are embedded across the region, coming to festivals, schools, and community offices near you, leading the charge as Metrolinx rings in Bike Month 2024.

In Georgetown, students at Christ the King High School got a live demonstration of the bike racks mounted to the front of GO Buses. On top of that, students who rode their bikes to school earned themselves some stylish swag and got a chance to win a loaded PRESTO card.

Keep an eye out for us in Hamilton during the city’s Bike Month festivities where you can enjoy some free refreshments, tune-ups and take part in group rides.

We’re also hosting a pop-up repair clinic at Jane-Finch Mall where cyclists can get bicycle repair service free of charge.

And be sure to stop by our booth at the Tour de Thorncliffe, in support of the Thorncliffe Park Autism Support Network and the Women’s Cycling Network.

These are just some of the ways we’re supporting cycling during Bike Month. Keep an eye on our social media feeds for more events coming up throughout June.

We’re committed to bringing communities together and being a good neighbour, and we hope you’ll bring your bicycle out to celebrate with us!

How is Metrolinx supporting cyclists?

Bike Coach new design

Sustainable transport is one of our core values. But biking isn’t just about getting from A to B. The physical and mental health benefits alone are reason enough to incorporate some pedal power into your day.

We are huge proponents of getting outside and making pedal power a regular part of your life. In fact, we’ve got seasonal bike coach service to Niagara to help you easily and affordably explore one of Ontario’s most treasured regions with your bicycle.

We also feature the same dedicated coaches along the Kitchener GO Line as well.

On top of that, many of our stations have been revitalized to feature more support for cyclists including reserved bicycle storage, bike shelters and cycling paths.

And before you head out, be sure to read our latest bike policy, updated to make transit safer and more convenient for all riders.
