Metrolinx has completed an Initial Business Case (IBC), in partnership with the Town of Milton, for a potential GO Station in Milton, Ontario.

If built, the transit station would be located at Trafalgar Road, south of the existing Milton corridor.

The IBC shows benefits to building the potential project on the Milton line, including better access to the GO network for local Halton Region residents. This would also improve access to nearby businesses, for customers and those in the job market.

As well, by providing better accessibility to the GO rail network, transit users would also benefit from shorter trips.

Metrolinx’s GO Expansion program is delivering more GO service across the network, including trains every 15 minutes on the Milton line during rush hour. The potential GO Station in Milton at Trafalgar Road would provide easy access to that service for thousands of customers.

The proposed station is projected to serve a daily ridership of 2,000 by 2041. Amenities would include pedestrian and cycling infrastructure, making it easier to get to and from the transit stop.

Impact on current Milton Station

The station would also have positive benefits for customers who currently use nearby stations – including alleviating parking pressure at the existing Milton GO Station.

TOC

The IBC contemplates that a potential station would be delivered through Metrolinx’s Transit Oriented Communities (TOC) Program.

TOC is higher density, mixed-use development that is connected next to or within a short walk of transit stations and stops. This type of development is designed to increase transit ridership and reduce traffic congestion, as well as increase housing supply and jobs with access to transit. It also looks to create complete communities based on good planning principles.

A TOC project would leverage the experience of third-party partners making it easier and faster for GO Transit customers to get to the places that matter most – bringing jobs, destinations, and housing closer to transit.

The IBC is just the first step – the development of a possible station is still subject to other necessary approvals and agreements.
