Confederation GO

Construction underway at new Confederation GO station in Hamilton

Station will help provide better connections between Hamilton and the Greater Toronto Area.

Oct 11, 2022

Metrolinx has begun construction on the new Confederation GO Station, an important addition to public transit in Hamilton.

Hamilton’s incredible growth needs a transit network to match, and that’s why Metrolinx is working to expand transit service to fit the needs of this expanding city.

The Confederation GO Station site has been serving GO bus customers since 2019. After construction is complete, it will also be the next stop on the Lakeshore West Line for riders travelling beyond West Harbour GO.

The new station will continue to serve customers using the Hamilton Street Railway (HSR) and GO Bus Route 12, which connects Confederation GO with Burlington GO Station, and the Dundas Street & Highway 407 park and ride lot, along with Grimsby, St. Catharines and Niagara Falls.

Confederation GO

A brand-new GO station for Hamilton

The future station will be located on Centennial Parkway North in Hamilton near the QEW. Customers will have easy access andconvenient ways to get on the GO whether it’s reloading their PRESTO card or buying tickets on site.

Here’s what riders can expect to see at Confederation GO Station:

  • A fully accessible island platform complete with mini-platform and canopies to help protect customers from the weather while waiting for their train
  • A pedestrian tunnel to get customers to their platform
  • Enhanced access with a pick-up and drop-off zone for 15 vehicles, bike racks, approximately 150 parking spaces and direct stair access from the platform to Centennial Parkway

I’m a member of the local community – what will I see during construction?

Community members may notice construction crews, equipment and material deliveries coming through the area, noise and vibrations from the machinery, and some ambient light from the site.

Construction will happen mainly Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with some overnight work as needed. When this happens, Metrolinx will advise the local community in advance and make every effort to minimize disruption as much as possible.

Should temporary road closures need to take place, the local community will be informed in advance.

Will bus service change at this location during construction?

Impacts to GO Bus Route 12 customers who use the Confederation GO site as a bus stop will be minimal. Metrolinx will keep customers informed about construction and any changes that might impact bus service.

Metrolinx in Hamilton

The new Confederation GO will add to an already-expanding transit network in Hamilton.

For example, Metrolinx has been serving Hamilton via GO Bus 12 since 2019 at the Confederation GO site, with rush hour GO Train service doubling in recent years at West Harbour GO station.

Currently, there are 46 daily express GO bus trips between Hamilton and Union Station in Toronto, making it easier to access these two cities directly.

The Hamilton LRT project is bringing 14 kilometres of frequent, reliable, and safe rapid transit to Hamilton. It will run from McMaster University through downtown Hamilton to Eastgate Square in Stoney Creek.

As Hamilton continues to expand and develop, Metrolinx will continue to deliver more choices for GO Transit service across the board.
