Cycle through Niagara with GO Transit

GO Transit’s bike coaches to Niagara return for 2024!

May 17, 2024

Scenic and sustainable mesh harmoniously as GO Transit’s updated bike coaches deploy on weekend trips to Niagara Falls for the summer season.

The first trips with our growing fleet of bike coaches began earlier this month – but now we’ve doubled the amount in our fleet to get you, your family, friends and more to one of Ontario’s treasured spots on time and affordably.

Starting May 18th, we’re adding multiple bike coaches to weekend trips on the Lakeshore West line to and from Niagara Falls. Each trip will deploy up to four bike coaches between Union Station and Niagara Falls GO Station.

What is a bike coach?

Since 2023, there has been increasing demand for more bicycle support in the GO network. In response, we’ve retrofitted eight train cars into bike coaches, representing a 133 per cent increase to our bicycle transportation fleet.

Each dedicated coach can accommodate up to 22 bicycles, including e-bikes – more than previous bike coaches – and includes lower-level seating for passengers.

We’ve also designed the coaches to make your bike more accessible from the aisle, meaning it’s that much easier to remove your ride when you arrive.

You can easily identify them by the bicycle decals on their windows.

Look for these coaches on Kitchener line trips, too!

Committed to safety

As a reminder, we’ve updated our bicycle protocols to ensure safety and convenience for all riders and staff aboard GO Transit vehicles – with special attention given to e-bikes. Be sure to read our updated policy for the latest information

GO Transit staff are equipped to inspect all e-bikes to ensure they meet our safety requirements.

Our commitment to sustainability also extends to how you get to your local GO stop, so we’ve steadily improved biking infrastructure across the network. From cycling paths to bike storage, reserved bicycle parking and more, we’re working towards a greener, cleaner, safer and more convenient future for all of us.

Your service to the falls

The return of bike coaches is part of our commitment to connecting communities in a sustainable way. Exploring the region has never been more affordable, convenient and eco-friendly.

Riders can choose from three convenient, direct rail trips to Niagara Falls GO seven days a week or enjoy frequent GO bus route 12 service to the falls. And don’t worry – the GO Bus can still hold some bicycles!

Be sure to use our handy trip planner to find the route that works for you – and check your schedule before heading out.

Lakeshore West expansion

In addition to our bike coaches, we’re also bolstering service along the Lakeshore West line! It’s already delivering two-way, all-day service between Union Station and Aldershot GO Station, and things are only going to get better.
