Over a weekend in May, the east half of the Bloor Street West bridge in Toronto’s west end was demolished and will be rebuilt to support service increases on the Barrie Line. GO Trains continued to run on the west mainline track during construction.  

This work supports GO Expansion - a program that will transform GO rail from a rush-hour service to a more frequent, two-way, all-day rapid transit experience. This means more transit options to help connect people to jobs, family and to more destinations across the region. 

Metrolinx will be bringing more frequent rail service in both directions with service every 15 minutes between Union Station and Bradford GO and every 30 minutes up to Barrie.

The work was completed faster than expected, during the May long weekend allowing Bloor Street to re-open a day earlier.

Work will continue on this important project including rebuilding the abutments and installing the new bridge span, to bring Barrie residents one step closer to two-way, all-day GO.
