With the holiday season soon upon us, there’s no better way to prepare for the festivities than by exploring the many charming holiday markets scattered across the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area (GTHA). We’ve rounded up some of the region’s best transit-friendly holiday markets to give you a head start on experiencing this season’s magic. All you need to do is plan your route and get to work on those Christmas shopping ideas.

One of a Kind Winter Show (Toronto) – Nov. 21 to Dec. 1, 2024

Celebrate Canadian craft culture and browse Christmas gift ideas from over 600 exhibitors at Toronto’s Enercare Centre, located right by Exhibition GO Station. Meet the makers behind unique jewelry pieces, gourmet treats and charming home décor, and surprise your loved ones with special, one-of-a-kind gifts this year.

Hess Village Holiday Market (Hamilton) – Nov. 23 to Dec. 1, 2024

For two weekends, Hess Winter Village comes alive as the businesses of Hess and George Streets join to create winter cheer in this family-friendly experience. Located within walking distance of West Harbour GO Station, Hess Village can be accessed by hopping a Lakeshore West train.

With free admission and complimentary photos with Santa, you’ll have more room in your budget to check off other items on your Christmas shopping list, including holiday party outfits, seasonal treats, and festive décor.

Olde Tyme Christmas (Unionville) – Dec. 14, 2024 Main Street Unionville comes alive with holiday magic during this one-day event. Stroll the charming streets, known for their picturesque Hallmark movie scenes, as you enjoy shopping, cozy dining spots, carolers, and Santa photos. The Olde Tyme Christmas Candlelight Parade is a cherished tradition in Markham, creating the perfect winter wonderland backdrop.

With Main Street Unionville just 2km north of Unionville GO Station, you can complete your journey by connecting to York Region Transit (YRT) for free with One Fare.

This holiday season, customers can take advantage of One Fare to pay only once when transferring across participating transit systems.

Distillery Winter Village (Toronto) – Nov. 16 to Dec. 31, 2024

Set against the historic Distillery District’s cobblestone streets, this popular Toronto market brims with holiday cheer, artisan stalls, festive treats, and glowing light displays.

Get your holiday shopping done or enjoy a cozy date night while sipping on some mulled wine. This year, the annual Tree Lighting Ceremony will take place on Nov. 13.

With easy access via the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) or GO Transit, the pedestrian-friendly Distillery District is located just 2km east of Union Station. Tickets are required for entry after 4:00 p.m. every Thursday to Sunday and Dec. 12–31, 2024.

Evergreen Brick Works Winter Market (Toronto) – Dec. 1, 8, 15, and 22, 2024

These four days of winter fun are sure to be a memorable experience for the whole family. With an artisan and vintage market, and products from 60+ vendors, you can take all your purchases to the gift-wrapping station, enjoy holiday themed activities like an ornament and wreath workshop, decorate easy Christmas cookies and refuel in the food court.

Parking is limited, but there is a free shuttle to Brick Works from TTC’s Broadview Station every 30-45 minutes on market days, with the first departure at 7:45 a.m., and the last one at 7:00 p.m.

Farmer’s (Uxbridge) – Nov. 3 to Dec. 8, 2024

Starting Nov. 3, the Uxbridge Farmers’ Market is hosting a series of indoor markets at the Uxbridge Arena Hall, every Sunday from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. This festive market brings together a wide variety of local vendors offering handmade and locally sourced goods, perfect for holiday shopping. GO Transit customers can take the Stouffville line to Mount Joy GO and transfer from there.

The Holiday Market at Friday Harbour (Innisfil) – Nov. 22 to Dec. 22, 2024

Every Friday, Saturday and Sunday until Christmas, Friday Harbour will transform into a festive lakeside wonderland, with free admission and parking. Visitors can browse local vendors, snap photos with Santa, and enjoy carolers’ performances.

To get there, take the Barrie GO line to Barrie South Station and then connect via Innisfil Transit to Friday Harbour.

Christkindl Market (Kitchener) – Dec. 5–8, 2024

This traditional German Christmas market celebrates European holiday customs with unique vendors offering crafts, food, and holiday gifts. Held at Kitchener City Hall, it includes caroling, live music, and festive performances.

Located a 10 min walk from Kitchener GO Station, it’s an excellent option for those in the GTHA looking for a European-style holiday market experience.

No matter where the season takes you, remember to take advantage of One Fare to transfer for free between GO Transit and TTC, YRT, Brampton Transit, MiWay, and Durham Region Transit. So get ready to bundle up and make your way to a community market to support local vendors and enjoy a memorable holiday outing.
