Finch West LRT: Year in review
2024 was an exciting year for the Finch West LRT with all major construction finishing.
Dec 19, 2024
The Finch West LRT reached several major milestones in 2024, in both construction and vehicle testing.
In 2024, we saw substantial progress with the completion of major construction at Humber College and Finch West stations, as well as all 16 stops across the alignment.
Finch West Station will bring more transit options to thousands of people, with a direct connection to TTC’s Line 1, and will bring people closer to major institutions like York University.
Humber College station will provide better transit access to Humber College North campus and Etobicoke General Hospital.
The line will connect people to MiWay, Brampton Transit, York Region Transit and the TTC. Major construction finishing along the line brings the project significantly closer to opening.
Earlier in the year, light rail vehicles travelled across the full alignment for the first time in the history of the project, with trains hitting up to 60 KM/H and taking around 34 minutes to travel from one end to another.
This milestone set the stage for more trains to be tested along the alignment at the same time, to better resemble the frequency with which trains will be travelling once in service.
Recently, crews were able to test 15 trains at the same time along the Finch West LRT, marking a major testing milestone on the project. This is the same number of trains expected to be running across the alignment when full service begins.
What to expect in 2025
With major construction on the project finished, testing and commissioning continues to take place. Various systems along the line will continue to be tested.
