Hamilton LRT: Year in review

What a year for the Hamilton LRT in 2024 as the project enters the procurement phase

Dec 19, 2024

The Hamilton LRT project reached several important milestones this year.

Advanced early works are continuing to take place at several locations across Hamilton, in collaboration with the City of Hamilton. This has included watermain relocations at various sites including Sherman Avenue and Wentworth Street. To date, a total of four early works projects have been completed on the project with several more to take place in 2025.

Archaeological assessments are now complete, concluding the archaeological field program on the project. Archaeological work is completed for all Metrolinx projects as part of the due diligence process and ensures that lands are cleared, and important items are preserved before major construction begins.

During the summer, the Hamilton Community Engagement team opened a community office at 116 King Street E. This office will help staff support the community during the development of the project. It is currently open Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m.

In September, Metrolinx released the Request for Qualification (RFQ) for civil works including utilities, roads, and structures. The RFP (Request for Proposals) will follow the RFQ once we appropriately qualify teams with the relevant experience and financial capacity to deliver the project, with the contract award to follow the RFP stage.

What to expect in 2025

Advanced early works at several locations will continue into the new year. We will continue to advance through the procurement stage of the project by appropriately qualifying contractors to deliver the project and releasing a Request for Proposals (RFP) in 2025.

Community Engagement teams will also continue to address questions and concerns with residents and stakeholders moving forward. It’s an exciting year ahead for the Hamilton LRT project with many more milestones ahead! To stay up to date,  keep an eye on the project webpage and follow us @HamiltonLRT.
