Metrolinx is marking a significant milestone for customers and communities along the Stouffville GO Line.

Major improvements are now complete at Agincourt and Milliken GO Stations.

From new platforms and tunnels to bike lanes and improved traffic flow - the upgrades at both stations mean customers can now enjoy more modern amenities and a more accessible transit experience.

The work, which is part of the GO Expansion program, also includes track upgrades and increases which will make two-way all-day GO Train service possible.

Metrolinx is working to connect communities by making transit more convenient, more accessible and by bringing more frequent GO service to commuters in the region.

Here’s a rundown on all the work recently completed.

Milliken GO Station

Improvements to Milliken GO Station and the accompanying new rail-over-road overpass (a grade separation) are game changers for customers and residents in the area.

On top of new pedestrian tunnels, elevators, and platforms, upgrades at Milliken GO include:

• Direct platform access from Steeles Avenue East 
• Improved passenger pick-up and drop-off area and increased bicycle storage 
• New bike lanes on Steeles Avenue East to provide cyclists with safer access to the station

Steeles Avenue Grade Separation

The new grade separation is located at Steeles Avenue East between Kennedy Road and Midland Avenue. It allows vehicles to pass underneath Milliken GO Station without having to stop and wait for trains to pass.

This new grade separation will provide:

• A major safety upgrade for GO customers, pedestrians, cyclists and vehicles by separating high-traffic roadway and the rail line
• Significant increase for traffic flow and reducing traffic times along Steeles Avenue East
• Steeles Avenue was also widened from four to six lanes

Agincourt GO Station

The improved Agincourt GO Station provides customers with several newly enhanced amenities, including:

• A new passenger pick-up and drop-off to make it safer and easier for customers to get to and from the station
• A new second track and platform and renovated existing platform to support future two-way, all-day service so trains can travel both ways on the Stouffville Line
• Two new pedestrian tunnels with elevators and stairs to improve accessibility for commuters
• Canopies and integrated shelters on the platforms to protect customers from the elements
• Better connection to Sheppard Avenue at the south end of the platforms

Stouffville GO Expansion progress

In addition to these upgrades, significant work was also completed at Unionville GO Station earlier this year, adding  to the progress for customers along the entire Stouffville Line.

The improvements to Agincourt, Milliken, and Unionville GO Stations bring substantial benefits to customers, residents, and the entire local community. Stations are now safer, more accessible and have more modern amenities. Combined with the new grade separation, this is a big step forward for transit users in the area.

Future two-way GO Train service on the Stouffville Line will bring even more benefits, and when coupled with increased connections to local and regional transit, expansion on the Stouffville Line contributes to the transformation of the region’s transit network.
