Following a successful  pilot program, Metrolinx announced today (Feb. 20) the continuation of their popular Sunday Funday program.

The next phase begins on March 1, 2020.

For 11 weeks, Metrolinx piloted Sunday Funday which provided GO train and bus customers with an e-ticket pass for $10 in which they could enjoy unlimited travel on GO Transit on Sundays.

The transit agency says the pilot has been very well received by customers with ticket use growing steadily. Popular destinations include Toronto’s Union Station, Niagara Falls, and Exhibition stations, as well as popular bus destinations of Waterloo and Square One in Mississauga.

The discount offer is just one of the ways Metrolinx helped boost off-peak ridership.

Other ridership highlights that were presented during today’s Metrolinx Board of Director Meeting include:

Ridership highlights from the past quarter

  • From October 2019 to December 2019: GO Transit ridership was 18.9-million and UP Express ridership was 1.1-million – this is 4.9 per cent higher than the same period last year.
  • Third quarter off-peak (weekday and weekend) boardings grew three times as quickly as weekday peak trips – this is driven by new weekend GO services rolled out in the second quarter, as well as the new hourly two-way weekend train service on the Stouffville GO corridor rolled out in November 2019.
  • All of this growth is supported by the roll out of GO’s lower short distance fares, for trips under 10km and the continued impact of Kids GO Free.

You can buy your Sunday Funday pass starting February 27 – available online only.
