Metrolinx is reaching out to the local community as the transit agency preps to start work on expanding one of Canada’s busiest railways.  

GO Transit’s Lakeshore East corridor provides a vital transit link for people from east Toronto through Durham region, and all the way to Oshawa. One of the major parts of the early work is expanding the rail corridor for the future addition of a fourth track on a section of the Lakeshore East line that goes through east Toronto. 

The provincial transit agency is making these improvements today to bring you even more GO service in the future. There is a strong economic business case for the GO Expansion project – one that will benefit the more than 12-million people expected to call the greater Toronto and Hamilton area home by 2041.  

But before work starts, an important step in the process is talking to the communities where the work is happening.

Metrolinx officials know the community has questions about the GO Expansion project and specifically the work planned for Small’s Creek ravine.   

To help answer questions and further engage with the community, Metrolinx is hosting a virtual open house on Wednesday, Feb 3, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Community members can register for and attend this virtual, fully accessible open house on Metrolinx Engage. 

What to expect at the meeting 

• Metrolinx staff will provide an update on the project  
• The project team and technical experts will be in attendance to give a detailed overview  
• Community members will have a chance to ask questions  

In the past few months, Metrolinx staff have heard from many people in the community. Residents have expressed how special Small’s Creek is to them – even sharing personal stories about how the green space has been particularly important during these challenging times.  

That’s why Metrolinx staff are committed to looking at ways to further enhance restoration efforts when the work has been completed.
