A brand-new parking garage and station building are ready to open to customers at Bramalea GO Station.

Residents and customers have watched the building rise from the ground, and now will be able to see – and soon park – inside.

Starting Sept. 13, customers will be able to access one of the largest parking garages in the GO Transit network.

The parking garage can accommodate 2,059 vehicles and features a colour-coded wayfinding system, two fully accessible elevators, a brand-new car counting system and over 100 security cameras.  

The completion of the open-air garage marks an important milestone for the ongoing revitalization work at the station.

Help with finding empty spots

The new car counting system will identify which levels have vacant spots – blue for accessibility, green for all other vacancies, red for occupied – and each level of the garage will be colour coded to help customers remember where they parked.

New station building

Customers can now directly access the train platforms from the station building using the accessible underground station building pedestrian tunnel.

The newly designed building, with large windows and high ceilings means customers at one of the busiest stations on the Kitchener line will have a bright, open, and airy space to wait for their trains and buses to pull in.

A portion of the Passenger Pick Up/Drop Off will be open for customers accessing the new station building, providing ample space for customers and drivers to navigate around the station and get to where they need to go quickly and safely.

Impacts to customers as construction progresses

The outdoor parking spaces in the north parking lot will be closed starting Sept. 13. The Bramalea Road entrance and exit will also remain closed. This will give construction crews the space they need to complete civil and utility work as well as to update the roadways to allow for better travel within the station property in the future.

Customers are asked to park their vehicles in the new parking garage on the north side of the station or in the south parking lot off Advance Boulevard.

While the Bramalea Road entrance and exit is closed, customers can use the entrance and exit lanes at Steeles Avenue to enter and exit the north side of the station.

Accessible and reserved parking spaces will move from the northwest parking lot to the first level of the parking garage, where vehicles will be protected from the weather and customers will have direct access to the new GO station building.

Parking spaces including accessible parking spaces are also available in the south parking lot.

What’s next for Bramalea GO?

Over the next few months, customers at Bramalea GO can anticipate a signalized intersection on Bramalea Road for buses, covered bike parking, emergency call systems, and retail space in the new station building.

The pandemic has provided an opportunity for construction crews to accelerate some work while many Bramalea GO customers took a pause on transit. As customers start to come back to GO, they’ll notice a lot has changed at their home station.
