Call it a bit of a pet project for Metrolinx – keeping animals safe during expansion work on the Lakeshore East GO Line.

With construction beginning soon near the Merrill Bridge Dog Park, a 1.4-hectare space near Woodbine Avenue and Danforth Avenue, Metrolinx is reaching out to area residents.

On Nov. 8 from 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM, Metrolinx staff will be at the Aldergrove Avenue park entrance to answer questions and listen to concerns from dog owners.

This winter, Metrolinx crews will begin removing trees and other vegetation in the rail corridor adjacent to the dog park. An access will be constructed in the eastern section of the park in February 2022. The access will be secured with fencing to keep park users and pets safe. Fencing will also be installed around trees which do not have to be removed. When the work is complete, the area will be restored, and will not be left in the rough.

This construction will take place during the night, Sunday to Thursday 7 pm to 7 am, and residents can expect to see construction vehicles and equipment on Aldergrove Ave and within the rail corridor.

The creation of this access and interior construction is part of the Lakeshore East Rail Corridor Expansion. This project in Toronto includes grading, retaining walls and constructing a new culvert. By building on what is there today, Metrolinx can improve infrastructure that will deliver faster, two-way, all-day, 15-minute service on core segments of the network.
