There’s new sights on the site.

Customers at Agincourt GO Station will notice changes that will pave the way for demolition of the existing main building, as well as construction of a new station and facilities.

As long-time Agincourt passengers have been used to seeing things largely unchanged since the 1980s – though there was some renovation a decade after – the temporary changes are an important moment in history for the station.  Upcoming customer adjustments mean some patience and understanding will be needed by riders and staff as the transit station prepares for an upgraded future.

Recently, a revamped setup for customers was completed by the project contractor, EllisDon. A temporary trailer and washrooms have been positioned a short distance from where the new Agincourt GO Station is being built. PRESTO and ticket machines were also relocated from inside the station building to outside the southwest platform.

This new setup is to prepare customers for a temporary transition during the upcoming demolition of the existing GO station building. Demolition of the existing building is required because it conflicts with a portion of the west side train platform that is currently under construction.

Construction of the new station building is well underway as part of the GO Expansion program. When complete, the improved Agincourt GO Station will give commuters better station amenities and access to all-day, two-way frequent GO train service on core segments of the Stouffville line.

While the contractor carries out necessary work within the construction zone, the temporary trailer will house GO Transit customer service representatives for ticket sales.

The temporary trailer and washrooms are expected to open for customer service on January 25, with demolition of the existing station to follow shortly after, in the second week of February. 

The original station was built in 1982 and was last renovated in the 1990s. Transformation of Agincourt GO began in October 2018 and completion is anticipated by mid-2021. The new station will be a LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certified Gold building and will provide updated amenities and spacious, well-lit waiting areas for customers to view train arrivals and departures.  LEED is a green building certification program used worldwide and Gold is the second highest of four certification levels.
