Tunnelling for the Eglinton Crosstown West Extension began earlier this spring with Renny, the first of two tunnel boring machines (TBMs) leading the way.

Rexy started following Renny’s lead in July. So far, they’ve travelled 865m and 1582m respectively.

You can keep tabs on Rexy and Renny with a new tracker as they dig more than six kilometres of tunnels that will form a large part of the Eglinton Crosstown West Extension.

The digging began at tunnel launch shaft site near Renforth Drive and is continuing east to Scarlett Road, where Rexy and Renny will be pulled out of the ground.

The route will transition to an elevated section just west of Scarlett Road, passing over the Humber River.

It will go back underground, just east of Jane Street, and connect to the Eglinton Crosstown LRT at Mount Dennis Station.

The extension will add 9.2 kilometres to the Eglinton Crosstown LRT, making it faster and easier to travel by rapid transit from the east end of Toronto all the way into Mississauga.
