TTC 501 Queen streetcar reroutes to support Ontario Line work
We’re working to keep you moving during Ontario Line construction and beyond.
Nov 6, 2024
In close collaboration with the City of Toronto and the TTC, we have completed work on infrastructure that will allow for continuous service of the 501 Queen streetcar via a new detour around Ontario Line subway construction on Queen Street. This is one of the ways we’re working with partners to keep people moving during construction of the new 15.6-kilometre transit line with 15 stops throughout the city.
The new route will take westbound commuters along Richmond Street and eastbound riders along Adelaide Street, connecting via York and Church streets.
But even once the Ontario Line is complete, the infrastructure will remain in place so it can be used during special events or road work that requires a detour around the area.
Queen Station upgrades
Work is currently underway on a vital connection at the TTC’s existing Queen subway station that will give travellers seamless access to both Line 1 and the Ontario Line upon completion.
We’re committed to keeping you moving while these upgrades are being made. Safe pedestrian access to Queen Station and local businesses through clearly marked walking paths through the area will be maintained as construction continues.
The Ontario Line’s 15.6-kilometre route will bring 15 new stations across Toronto, allowing commuters to get from Exhibition Place all the way up to the Eglinton Crosstown LRT at Don Mills in under 30 minutes. By comparison, that same trip with current transit options takes over 70 minutes today.
Once complete, about 6,100 transfers to and from Line 1 will take place at Queen Station, while an estimated 16,600 customers will pass through the station at peak travel times.
