Piling is a construction technique that dates to ancient times when wooden piles dug into the ground reinforced bridges, forts, and buildings.

Today, crews use steel piles – beams – covered in concrete of various sizes to support new structures on the Finch West line.

To build a deep foundation, crews twist a steel casing attached to a rig into the ground to dig a hole. A steel pile is placed in the hole and covered with concrete.

See how Finch West Station and Humber College stop are being built using the piling method in the latest video.
