Weekend closures on Lakeshore East & Stouffville for construction

Evening service to be adjusted on Stouffville Line for Kennedy GO Station work.

Sep 21, 2022

Metrolinx is building new transit lines and upgrading existing ones.

This will reduce journey times, add more capacity and improve reliability, but that can’t happen without construction.

This weekend (Sept 23-25), service will be adjusted for construction and maintenance work along the Lakeshore East and Stouffville GO Lines. Next week, there will also be Stouffville GO Line evening changes.

Lakeshore East Line closure

Buses will replace Lakeshore East trains from late on Friday evening, Sept. 23, through Saturday, Sept. 24 and Sunday, Sept. 25. They will serve all stations except those where the TTC is an option – Rouge Hill, Guildwood, Eglinton, Scarborough and Danforth.

Stouffville Line closure

On Saturday, Sept. 24 and Sunday, Sept. 25, Stouffville GO Trains will not run. Instead, buses will serve all stations except Milliken, Agincourt and Kennedy.

Next week, on Sept. 26, 27, 29 and 30, buses will replace trains on the Stouffville GO Line after 9 p.m.

Buses do not have the same capacity as trains, so customers may wish to see what other GO Transit bus options are available, including some that connect to the TTC.

These include Route 92, 96B and 52A for those along Lakeshore East. Triplinx is a great resource for planning a trip that includes more than one transit agency.

Why is this work happening?

Work being done this weekend is necessary for the Ontario Line subway project, GO Expansion and regular maintenance.

Once completed, the Ontario Line will add 15.6 km to Toronto’s subway network. Lakeshore East and Stouffville Line GO passengers will have an easy transfer point at a new East Harbour station, providing a shorter trip to and from the Financial District.

Track work on the Stouffville Line will support the Kennedy GO station enhancement project and the Eglinton Crosstown LRT.

Scheduling decisions are not taken lightly. Metrolinx arranges construction and maintenance timing so that as much work as possible gets done simultaneously, on these weekends.

Construction plans can change due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances.

Please always check your train schedule and the Service Updates page at gotransit.com before your trip.
