Veterans and Canadian Armed Forces members can travel free on GO Transit.
Veterans and members of the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) can travel free year-round on GO Transit with a valid ID, such as a Veteran’s Service Card or a Canadian Military Service ID.
This includes regular and reserve members.
Veterans and CAF members can simply travel with the appropriate form of identification, such as a Veteran’s Service Card or a Canadian Military Service ID, without needing to tap their PRESTO card to enjoy free GO Transit service.
Customers also have the option to set a new fare type on their PRESTO card and take advantage of One Fare discounts.
Customers who have enabled the new fare type on their PRESTO card, will be able to transfer between participating transit agencies for free using One Fare once they have tapped their PRESTO card.
Eligible customers can speak with a station ambassador at staffed GO stations to add the new fare type to their PRESTO card.
Customers who require multiple fare types, such as a veteran who also has a senior’s fare for another transit agency, should add their PRESTO card to Google Wallet or Apple Wallet to allow for multiple Transit Agency specific fare types on a single card. Customers can then visit a staffed GO Station to have the new fare type added to their PRESTO card.
Whether using PRESTO or their valid ID, during fare inspection, customers will be asked to present their valid ID such as a Veteran’s Service Card or a Canadian Military Service ID.
Metrolinx is proud to pay tribute to Canadian Armed Forces members (Regular and Reserve) and veterans across the region.
