Ride GO and UP Express for free on New Year’s Eve

Travel safe for the holidays with special service and free fare.

Dec. 18 – Metrolinx will be offering free service on GO Transit and UP Express this holiday season in partnership with Forty Creek Whisky. 

Starting at 7 p.m. on New Year’s Eve, customers can ride on any GO Train or GO Bus for free until 8 a.m. on New Year’s Day. Customers are asked to tap on and off as usual, but will not be charged a fare during the free service window. Tapping outside of the free service window, before 7 p.m. on New Year’s Eve or after 8 a.m. on New Year’s Day, will result in a fare.

UP Express will also be free to all customers from 7 p.m. until end of special service on Dec. 31. There is no need to tap or purchase a ticket during the free service window.

On Dec. 24 and Dec. 31, Metrolinx will also offer service on a special holiday schedule across the GO Train and Bus networks, with additional trips and earlier departures. 

• Milton Line: Some afternoon rush hour trips will depart Union Station earlier on Dec. 24 and 31. There will be additional evening trips arriving at Union Station on Dec. 31, with the last train departing Union Station at 2:55 a.m. 
• Lakeshore East and West Line: Additional trips arriving and departing regularly out of Union Station throughout Dec. 31 
• Barrie Line: Extra late-night trips departing Union Station on Dec. 31, with the last train leaving at 3:54 a.m. 
• Stouffville Line: Extra late-night trips departing Union Station on Dec. 31, with the last train leaving at 4:12 a.m. 
• Richmond Hill Line: Some afternoon rush hour trips will depart Union Station earlier on Dec. 24 and 31. There will be additional evening trips arriving at Union Station on Dec. 31, with the last train departing Union Station at 1:15 a.m. 
• Additional GO Bus service will be added on Dec. 31. 

Customers are advised to check schedules for updated times in advance of their trip. 

UP Express will operate as usual on Dec. 24, with trains running every 15 minutes. On New Year’s Eve, we have arranged additional late-night trains from Union Station to help you get back from the festivities safely. The last UP Express train will depart Union Station at 3:45 a.m.

Metrolinx is encouraging customers to enjoy New Year’s Eve safely.  

Customers should always stay well behind the yellow line when waiting on a train platform. Ensure children who are travelling with you remain close by. 

Customers should never chase a bus and be sure to always use sidewalks and designated walkways.
