The change benefits customers by simplifying ticket purchases across the GTHA. 

Oct. 16 – On Nov. 5, 2024, York Region Transit (YRT) customers will be able to purchase E-Tickets through the PRESTO E-Tickets app.  

Once a PRESTO E-Ticket is purchased through the app, it can be saved on the customer’s device, making the digital ticket usable without internet access. Before boarding, customers must activate the E-Ticket selected. When boarding, customers then show the E-Ticket for visual validation or scan the ticket’s QR code using the barcode reader on the PRESTO fare payment device. 

As early as Nov. 12, YRT E-Tickets will no longer be available for purchase through the YRT Pay and Transit apps. Towards the end of that month, any previously purchased tickets on the YRT Pay app will automatically be transferred to the PRESTO E-Tickets app. Existing YRT Pay app customers can use their current login credentials to log into the PRESTO E-Tickets app to access their tickets and make new purchases. 

In addition to YRT tickets, the PRESTO E-Tickets app allows customers to purchase tickets for other transit agencies including Durham Region Transit, Hamilton Street Railway, and Oakville Transit, offering greater convenience for commuters across regions.  

Transfers within YRT remain free within a two-hour window, while cross-agency transfers will require an additional fare. Customers travelling between transit agencies may want to consider using their physical PRESTO card or PRESTO in Mobile Wallet to benefit from the One Fare discount. 

PRESTO E-Tickets are a great option for the occasional traveller, tourist, group traveller, as a gift, or anyone who may have forgotten to bring their physical PRESTO card.
