2024 progress at Bloor GO Station
Building the connection between a key GO and TTC transit station.
Dec 20, 2024
2024 has been an exciting year for the Bloor Station project, as significant strides have been made to improve the connection between the Bloor GO and Dundas West TTC stations.
This transformative initiative promises to enhance accessibility and streamline transit experiences for thousands of commuters everyday.
A Year of Progress
The new connection will bridge the gap between Bloor GO and Dundas West TTC stations, reducing the walking distance between platforms to under 100 meters and providing a seamless transit experience. This integration includes features such as elevators, improved wayfinding signage, and covered pathways to enhance passenger convenience, especially for those with mobility challenges.
The work began in May 2024, marking the start of visible changes on the ground. By November, major milestones such as constructing the new elevator shaft and two new staircases had been achieved. These advancements not only reflect meticulous planning but also a commitment to improving accessibility for all passengers.
Another notable development was the arrival of the jet grouter, a piece of heavy machinery integral to foundational work. Complementing this, advanced sensors were installed within the TTC tunnel, showcasing the project’s focus on integrating modern technology to ensure safety and efficiency.
Visual Highlights
To capture the momentum, Metrolinx shared a series of stunning visuals throughout the year. A time-lapse video showcased the rapid evolution of the site, while a dynamic "drop shot" aerial video offered a bird’s-eye view of the progress. Posts highlighting the arrival of heavy equipment and the installation of new signage provided a glimpse into the behind-the-scenes efforts that drive the project forward.
What’s Next?
Upcoming work includes continued progress on extending the south side pedestrian tunnel, completing the elevator and stair connections, the new pedestrian pathway that will connect Dundas West TTC Station and the tunnel entrance, the relocation of the passenger pick-up/drop-off area and construction of the new TTC concourse. Once complete, this connection will enable seamless transfers between the two stations.
