Access to Bramalea GO Station improving in more ways than one
New bus loop at Bramalea GO Station is now partially open - get the latest on station improvements.
Jun 9, 2022
Bramalea GO Station’s new bus loop is now open for GO customers.
As one of the busiest stations on the Kitchener Line, major upgrades at Bramalea GO will ensure it can continue to serve more passengers as two-way, all-day service is introduced over the coming years.
Now, as construction at Bramalea enters its final phases, the new bus loop has partially opened for GO Transit and Brampton Transit buses, meaning construction at the station is getting closer to completion.
Alongside improved pedestrian and cyclist access, and the already-open new parking structure, the new bus loop is one step toward making Bramalea GO even better connected.
This is all part of Metrolinx’s GO Expansion project, which will increase the frequency and number of GO Trains arriving at Bramalea GO and much of the GO Transit network.
So, what’s changed?
Customers will now board their GO Transit and Brampton Transit buses in the new bus loop, located behind the station building.
These improvements bring two bus services to one location, making it easier for bus customers to connect to their GO Train.
For now, Züm Transit customers are advised to continue boarding from the current stop on Steeles Avenue. When the project is complete, Züm Transit customers will also be able to enter and exit their buses from the new Züm-dedicated bus loop within the station.
What happens when construction is finished at Bramalea GO?
Station access will improve for everyone, no matter how riders get to the station.
For those arriving by foot, the station will feature a new pedestrian path from Steeles Avenue, which will lead directly into the station and is also cyclist-friendly.
Cyclists will also be able to use the new covered bicycle parking to keep their bikes safe from the elements.
Currently, drivers are already able to take advantage of the new parking garage.
When the project is done, there will also be a new passenger pick-up, drop-off area on the north side of the station. Right now, there is a temporary pick-up, drop-off space available in the south parking lot (off Advance Boulevard).
Access to Bramalea Road from the station has also improved, with a new additional signalized exit from the parking structure to the street.
What else is going on at Bramalea GO?
Construction on improvements at Bramalea GO is expected to be finished this summer.
Work to enhance bus transit at the station is currently underway.
The Steeles Avenue entrance/exit to the station is being moved to create bus-only transit lanes, which will separate transit from cars, boost efficiency and enhance safety.
The upgraded station is also going to feature enhanced accessibility and community connections, with a new accessible station building, two accessible pedestrian tunnels connecting to the train platforms at both the station building and the west end of the platforms, and upgraded elevators to bring customers to platform level.
The renovated north and south platforms both feature new snow-melting systems, and have been extended to accommodate larger, 12-car trains. Canopies have also been added over the platforms, with more shelters to keep customers dry during inclement weather.
