Bramalea GO open step closer to completion
Construction work on new station, parking structure & platforms moves onto next phase.
Feb 5, 2020
Building a new GO station takes a lot of heavy lifting.
It’s not just excavators, cranes, and bulldozers – it also takes people power.
Bramalea GO station has been under construction for more than eight months and major progress is being made.
If you are a regular customer at this station, you’ll likely see the more than 65 workers that are on site every day laying foundation, excavating and making much needed improvements to the station.
Metrolinx is upgrading the station in order to accommodate more passengers and future increases to train service as part of the GO expansion program.
Bramalea GO Station Improvements
The new parking structure is scheduled to open by the end of 2021 and the station building soon after in early 2022. Customers can look forward to a brand new station building linked to a parking garage adding close to 1,300 spaces.
Other improvements include:
- A new accessible tunnel at the west end of the station connecting the north and south parking lots
- Partial canopy coverage on both the island and side platforms
- A renovated island platform and side platform with new snow-melting systems
- Improved bus platforms for GO Transit and Brampton Transit, with a dedicated Züm bus loop
- Improved access to Bramalea Road
What’s happening now?
As work continues throughout the winter months, customers can expect a few changes to their daily routines.
Starting Feb. 13, 2020, there will be changes to the island and south platform. Construction on the east end of the island platform is complete and will re-open. The west end of the island platform, along with the west tunnel, will be closed for the next phase of construction.
The accessible ramp on the island platform will be closed while crews work on the west end of the island platform. There is a temporary accessible ramp on the east end of the island platform behind the elevator.
Customers with accessibility needs won’t be able to use the south platform if they want to access the station building, bus loop or parking lot on the north side. There are no elevators in service from the south platform.

Regular commuters might have noticed how quickly the new parking structure has sprung up. To many, it looked like the six levels went up in a flash.
This is because Metrolinx has chosen to build the structure using pre-cast concrete pieces. This means that instead of pouring the concrete on site, the pieces are sent separately and put together on site. Like Lego, once on site they just snap together and are reinforced for safety and security.
When complete, the improved Bramalea GO station will give customers access to more frequent GO service and better station amenities. For information on all the improvements along the Kitchener line, including all-day, two-way GO train service, visit metrolinx.com/kitchener
