It’s another significant piece of the puzzle in Toronto’s landscape and now the new Garrison Crossing spans two rail corridors just north of Fort York.

The southern section of the pedestrian and cycling bridge was lifted into place last weekend. Next year, it will give people another space to walk, run and bike in the city’s downtown core, all while trains roll by beneath them.

In coordination with work Metrolinx has been doing along the Lakeshore West rail corridor, CreateTO was able to take the opportunity and move the second 49-metre structure into place during the early morning hours on Saturday.

“The northern bridge was put in back in July,” said Adam Snow, the manager for third party projects at Metrolinx. “We facilitated the (timing) to ensure the tracks were clear.”

The two-part bridge connects Stanley Park to the north with a piece of land known as the Ordnance Triangle and then the Garrison Common at Fort York. The triangle exists where the Lakeshore West and Kitchener rail corridors split from one another.

The entire project is expected to be complete in 2019.
