Metrolinx has been participating in Toronto’s Pride Parade for several consecutive years and physical distancing won’t break that streak of support.

Even though this year’s festivities are being held virtually due to the COVID-19 pandemic, there will still be performances, speeches and special guests.

This weekend (June 28), Metrolinx’s crew of virtual marchers are ready to cheer, clap and dance when it’s their moment to shine on the parade’s live broadcast. The virtual Pride Parade is happening live on Zoom from 12:00-1:30pm on Sunday, June 28. To tune in, you can head to the official Pride Toronto webpage.

In preparation for this high energy moment, Metrolinx’s Pride 365 team (an employee resource group aimed at giving all of our LGBTQ+ employees and allies, a voice) has been hosting a series of activities to engage and educate staff about how everyone can better support LGBTQ+ communities.

A #didyouknow series shared videos and articles from the history of the long fight for equality, to two spirited peoples, to gender pronouns. Staff also shared personal stories from the LGBTQ+ community at Metrolinx on their experiences coming out and a series of conversations about discrimination and inclusion in the workplace.

On the lighter side, Metrolinx staff participated in a Pride outfit contest over an internal corporate social media site. Dozens of staff showed support by sharing photos of their families, children and even pets having fun and letting their creative side shine.
