How to find lost items through Metrolinx’s Lost and Found office
Whether you have misplaced your keys or favourite jacket, here’s how to reclaim lost items.

Losing something valuable on the GO Train, GO Bus, UP Express or inside a station, can feel like an immediate setback.
But there is still hope for retrieving your items with the help of our Lost and Found office, located inside Toronto’s Union Station.
How do misplaced or forgotten items make it to Union Station?
Once a GO train or bus completes service for the day, our Customer Service Ambassadors (CSAs) and bus drivers walk through the coaches and vehicles to look for items left behind. Those found items are then dropped off at the assigned train yard or bus garage.
From there, a courier service transports these found items to the Lost and Found office located at Counter 6 in the York Concourse in Union Station.
“Since we work with an internal house courier, we generally tell our customers that that lost items can take anywhere from two to 10 days until they arrive at our office in Union Station,” said Station Ambassador Vince P.
Station Ambassadors, along with any other GO employee, also collect from the Bus Terminal and Bay and York Concourses in Union Station to ensure any forgotten items are brought back to the Lost and Found office.
What types of items find their way to the Lost and Found office?
Beyond the most commonly forgotten items, such as backpacks, phones, wallets, wireless headphones and keys, Metrolinx’s Lost and Found team has also seen some unique items arrive at the office over the years.
“We once had an eight-foot stuffed frog appear on one of our trains a few years back, and I thought, this must be a prank,” said Vince.
“I also had a samurai sword come in one time, and even a life ring buoy as well.”
Lost something on a GO Train or GO Bus?
If you are looking to retrieve a missing item, visit our Lost and Found webpage. Please be prepared to provide the following information:
- Your first and last name
- Contact information
- A description of the lost item
- The origin and destination of your trip
- The train line or bus route involved
To claim your object, you’ll need to provide photo identification and proof of ownership. To unlock a lost phone or laptop, this must be done in the presence of Lost and Found staff.
If you can’t get to us in-person, you can authorize someone to claim the item on your behalf by informing the Lost and Found staff. Alternatively, you can be sent an email with instructions to have your item shipped to you by a courier at your expense.
Lost items stay at the downtown Toronto office for 30 days, and items that are not claimed within that time window are donated.
The Metrolinx Lost and Found office is open Monday to Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Please note that the office is closed on statutory holidays.
