Hurontario LRV doppelganger makes Peel Region debut

This model will offer customers a rare glimpse into the future of transit for Peel Region.

Aug 27, 2019

Think of it as meeting a professional body double.

Peel Region residents will be able to see inside a full-scale replica of the Alstom light rail transit vehicle that will be rolling down Hurontario in the future.

Commuters, transit enthusiasts and back-to-school shoppers will have the chance to tour the vehicle for the first time, maybe even stopping for a selfie inside the mock-up.

Starting Friday August 30, the vehicle will be available at Square One Shopping Centre’s Entrance 7, near the MiWay and Go Bus Terminals.

Alstom light rail vehicles will be used on the future Hurontario light rail transit (LRT) line to bridge the cities of Mississauga and Brampton. The preferred proponent to design, build, operate, finance and maintain the Hurontario LRT is Mobilinx and was announced on August 26. The contract is expected to be awarded this fall.

Just down the street from the mock-up site, the Hurontario LRT’s City Centre stop will connect future transit riders to the MiWay and GO Bus Terminals, creating even more connections in Peel region.

The Alstom mock-up vehicle is about 42 feet in length and is as heavy as 12 male moose (12,500 kg).

The full-length vehicle will carry 292 passengers per vehicle on the Hurontario LRT line in the future, with four allocated wheelchair spaces per vehicle.

The vehicle will be open to the public at the following times:

* Friday, August 30 – 12 PM to 7 PM
* Saturday, August 31 – 11 AM to 7 PM
* Sunday, September 1 – 11 AM to 7 PM
* Monday, September 2 – 11 AM to 6 PM

We look forward to taking you onboard.
