Lakeshore West moves to hourly train service for Sept weekend
Find more about the track work and why it’s needed.
Aug 31, 2021
There’s never a good time for construction.
While GO remains here to get you where you need to go, whether it’s the Blue Jays game, a concert, or visiting friends, there’s some important information to keep in mind if you’re planning on taking the Lakeshore West line next weekend (Sept. 11-12).
Starting in the early morning next Saturday (Sept. 11), crews will be working on the tracks between the Gardiner Expressway and Dufferin Street. The work will improve train speeds, service life and reliability, allowing GO Transit to provide better service in the future.
Here’s what you need to know:
- From the beginning of service on Saturday, September 11 to the end of service on Sunday, September 12, GO train service on Lakeshore West will run hourly.
- Trips to and from Niagara Falls will continue to run on their regular schedule.
- Customers on bus Route 18 will experience longer wait times of 38 to 45 minutes connecting to/from Lakeshore West trains.
- Customers on bus routes 12 and 15 will not be affected.
- From 11 p.m. on Friday, September 10 until the end of service on Sunday, September 12, trains at Exhibition GO will only serve platform 4 (next to the station building). Customers should give themselves a bit of extra time to check their platform when they arrive.
- Customers connecting at Union Station between Lakeshore East and Lakeshore West trains may experience longer wait times of 33 to 45 minutes due to the schedule changes required to accommodate this work.
- Regular service will resume on Monday, September 13.
Another thing to keep in mind: weekend maintenance work will once again take place for the same period of time with the same impacts on October 16 and 17.
