New community survey on transit officers and the public

Metrolinx looks for input on transit security and Transit Safety interactions with the community

Jun 8, 2021

Metrolinx has launched a community survey to define what safety on transit lines means for community members.

Used as important feedback for the Transit Safety Division, including the officers who are the public face of that team, here’s some background.

Diversity, Inclusion, Accountability, and Trust

The Transit Safety Division is a key part of the mantra that at Metrolinx, safety never stops. As the vanguard in protecting travellers, they are responsible for the security of people and property on the Metrolinx transit network, including GO Transit and UP Express.  The mission is to ensure the safety and well-being of customers while fostering an environment of diversity, inclusion, accountability, and trust.

Over the last year, the way Metrolinx collectively thinks about safety, security, and inclusivity has changed – and continues to evolve and improve.

Transit Safety is building a plan to transform the way Metrolinx protects and engages with customers and communities. As part of this journey, the transit agency has launched a community survey to insure a shared vision of safety and security for all.

How to get involved

This survey will help define what ‘guardianship’ – the mantra of Transit Safety officers – means to customers and communities. This includes how travellers and community members engage with Transit Safety officers and staff. The feedback will also help inform future engagement plans – including a public town hall, to be held virtually, at the end of June. You can register for that now, and here’s how.

Between lockdowns and stay at home orders, it has probably been a while since many have last stepped aboard GO Transit and Up Express, but this conversation is important and needed.
