Upcoming Etobicoke road closures for Finch West LRT construction
There are disruptions that come with making a transit line. Today we’re talking about road closures.
Jan 24, 2022
Over the next few months, some roads in Etobicoke will be temporarily closed as construction ramps up on the Finch West Light Rail Transit (LRT) project.
Starting Monday, Jan. 24 until approximately Friday, Mar. 4, Silverstone Drive, just west of Martin Grove Road in northwest Toronto, will be closed for preparatory duct bank and guideway installation work. The guideway is the dedicated transit lane that the light rail vehicle will travel on.
Following the reopening of Silverstone Drive, Damascus Drive, also just west of Martin Grove Road, will be closed for similar work beginning Mar. 7 to approximately Mar. 31, 2022.
Work will primarily happen Monday to Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. There may be overnight and/or weekend work, if needed. The community will be notified of any changes to the current schedule.
Crews will be removing asphalt and excavating materials at both intersections. Afterwards, sub-drains will be installed, and the areas will be backfilled with gravel.
Teams will then start work on the concrete encased duct bank, including installing PVC piping to support the light rail vehicle signaling and communications cabling.
Following that, teams will then be ready to begin laying track at the two intersections.
