Improving future GO train service on the Lakeshore East Rail Corridor means making improvements today.

Starting this month, Warden Avenue will be reduced to single lane conditions in each direction between Danforth Avenue and Clonmore Drive. The traffic impacts are required to reconfigure the existing sewage distribution network. This work brings the Lakeshore East Rail Corridor one step closer to more frequent, quieter and faster GO train service.

A new catch basin utility hole replacement will be conducted on the west side of Warden Avenue. Crews will lay down piping on the roadway to connect the new catch basin to the existing sewage network.

Traffic Impacts

The work will occur in three stages:

Stage 1: The west side of the road will be closed for roadwork, and northbound and southbound traffic will flow through the east side of the road.  The east side walk will be closed.

Stage 2: Traffic will move to the outside lanes while the lanes closest to the median will be closed. Both east and west side walks will remain open.

Stage 3: The east side of the road will be closed for roadwork, and both directions of traffic will flow through the west side of the road. The west sidewalk will be closed.

The work will be ongoing until the end of July.

Metrolinx understands the inconvenience of the traffic impacts, but crews will be working hard to get the job done safely and on time.

Delineators will be in place and directional signage will be installed. Traffic and pedestrian changes are outlined below:

• Traffic and cyclists heading both north and south on Warden Avenue will be travelling through narrower lanes than usual.
• Pedestrians will be impacted during the first and third stages of construction when the west and east sidewalks are closed, respectively.

Please plan ahead and incorporate extra time for your travel.

The Lakeshore East West Corridor Expansion Early Works project covers the area between Pape Avenue and Kennedy Road. Completing this work will enable the future addition of a fourth track and will bring more service to the Lakeshore East line. By building on what we have today, we can improve infrastructure that will deliver faster, two-way, all-day, 15-minute GO rail service. This project is part of GO Expansion and supports a larger, system-wide plan to improve GO rail service on core segments of the network.
