Eglinton Crosstown West Extension moves forward with important procurement milestone.
September 27 – The Ontario government recently announced that a request for proposals (RFP) has been issued for the Stations, Rail and Systems (SRS) contract for the Eglinton Crosstown West Extension – which will bring future Eglinton Crosstown LRT service 9.2 kilometres farther west, creating a rapid transit line that will run from Scarborough all the way into Mississauga.
The package of work includes design and construction of all seven new stations, fitting the tunnels and 1.5-kilometre elevated guideway with track and signals, and installing and commissioning communications, ventilation and other support systems for the new line.
The contract also includes utility work and road modifications along Eglinton Avenue West to accommodate construction and changes at Mount Dennis Station that will help connect the extension to future Eglinton Crosstown LRT service.
Submissions from the three shortlisted teams were evaluated through a Request for Qualifications (RFQ) process that asked interested companies to submit their qualifications and expertise.
The three teams invited to bid on the SRS contract are:

Progress update
A two-year journey to excavate 6.3-kilometre tunnels for the western underground segment of the route recently wrapped up as Rexy and Renny, the twin tunnel boring machines employed on the project, reached the finish line. The tunnels stretch from Renforth Drive in Mississauga to the Scarlett Road extraction shaft in Etobicoke – where work is happening to form the structure of the future tunnel portal.
Work is underway to prepare for construction of the elevated portion of the line, and the second tunnelled portion of the route that will run between Mount Dennis Station and the elevated guideway.
The seven new stations included in the SRS contract will bring transit closer to 37,500 more people and 23,600 more jobs. By connecting more neighbourhoods and employment areas, they will unlock new opportunities for residents and businesses alike.
