Metrolinx gives away free firewood at Rouge Hill GO Station
As part of its environmental work to repurpose trees, Metrolinx is offering wood to residents.

Tis the season for logs on the fire.
Metrolinx is continuing a project that offers out cut firewood – taken from trees felled for safety along transit routes – to community members. The next give-away is on Saturday (Dec. 18), at Rouge Hill GO Station.
A fundamental part of GO Expansion – preparing to provide 15-minute ‘two-way all-day service’ on most corridors – is electrification. This involves a vegetation management plan, where tree removal, compensation and education is taking place. A video that shows the electrified network and compensation program can be found here.

On Saturday, (Dec. 18), from 9 a.m. to noon, Metrolinx and one of its tree removal contractor companies, PNR, will be at Rouge Hill GO Station, located at 6251 Lawrence Ave. E. in Scarborough, giving away free firewood. As the second wood give-away event so far, community members can load-up a wheel barrel-full. GO Bear will also be on hand.
To add to the festive vibe, Santa and his elves are expected at the event.
Metrolinx is planning more wood give-aways next year, and is partnering with conservation authorities on future planting events as part of the vegetation compensation plan.
