Metrolinx is supporting the province’s efforts to get as many people vaccinated as possible by transforming two GO buses into mobile vaccination clinics.

The two unique GO buses – known as GO-VAXX buses – are going to various community hubs and gatherings in the Greater Toronto and Hamilton region throughout August and into the fall, offering vaccines to anyone aged 12 and over.

The GO-VAXX buses will run six days a week and will operate as a fully functioning vaccine clinic with the necessary supplies and healthcare professionals to assist people and ensure that vaccines are administered safely.

Each bus has the capacity to deliver up to 200 doses per day. The mobile clinics are fully accessible and will be administering the Pfizer vaccine.

“We are excited and pleased to help plan and deliver this innovative approach linking vaccination and transit together,” said Phil Verster, President and CEO, Metrolinx.

“Metrolinx has supported on site clinics for our staff and the public, and the GO VAXX bus is another great next step to make it even more convenient for people to get protected,” said Verster.

All COVID-19 safety precautions will be followed on board, including the required pre-vaccination screening and post-vaccination monitoring.

Each bus can safely hold eight people at a time and no appointments are necessary. Anyone aged 12 and over can get their first or second dose while supplies last.

The first GO-VAXX bus will start this weekend (Aug 7-8) with a stop at Canada’s Wonderland on Saturday and Sunday – operating from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. This event is intended for Canada’s Wonderland guests with reservations.

The remaining locations will be determined by the province, working with local public health units and municipalities. A schedule is available on the Ministry of Health’s website.

Metrolinx has already hosted two highly successful vaccine clinics for staff and the general public at Guildwood GO Station, where there were approximately 800 doses of the vaccine administered.

The vaccine is one of the most critically important ways to keep everyone safe and is a key step in people returning to their normal commute. As vaccination rates ramp up and virus levels decline, Metrolinx is ready to safely welcome customers back to GO Transit and UP Express.
