Next phase of Hurontario LRT construction to begin in Brampton

The Hurontario LRT project will reach an important milestone, with new construction in Brampton.

Dec 15, 2021

It is the next step in making the Hurontario Light Rail Transit (LRT) a reality for Brampton residents.

Over the past year, crews completed early works on a two kilometre stretch of the route. Now that the final sections of median have been removed and temporary traffic signals are in place, a new, more substantial phase of construction can finally begin.

In the next few weeks, crews will begin relocating watermain and storm lines. They will start just north of the Highway 407 interchange and move north towards Bartley Bull Parkway.

Two lanes of traffic will be moving in each direction, following the removal of medians along Hurontario Street in Brampton. This provides for dedicated left turn lanes at signalized intersections.

Crews in Brampton will work simultaneously on both sides of the street. This is a change from what was seen in Mississauga, where these relocations took place on only one side, at any given time.
