Eglinton Station continues to see progress for the new Eglinton Crosstown Light Rail Transit (LRT) line. Strap in and take a ride to see it unfold.

While it may look like just a noisy hole in the ground, there’s a lot happening in a hidden world filled with concrete, metal and machines.  

The latest Crosstown video gives viewers a look into the work that’s happening at the surface of the Yonge and Eglinton intersection, as well a look below ground, where most of the work for the LRT line has been happening. The future Eglinton Station will serve as a busy interchange station that will connect the LRT line to the TTC Line 1 Subway.

Earlier this year, Eglinton Station completed all excavation work below the existing TTC station box. The station’s footprint is 269m. long, approximately 73 metres longer than the E Condos South Tower being built in the area. It also reaches a depth of approximately 20m., or the height of a six-storey building.

Workers recently completed a concrete pour at the station inverts, marking the completion of all invert pours across the project. An ‘invert pour’ is a pour of the base level slab – not to be confused with the ‘mudslab’, which is the slab below the invert that actually sits on the ground.

No, there will be no test for you on this. But it is an impressive engineering feat.
