Lakeshore East weekend GO Train service affected by construction

Important construction work is happening this weekend (Dec. 10-12) on the Lakeshore East Line.

Dec 7, 2021

Important construction work is happening this weekend that will impact travel on the Lakeshore East GO Line.

Beginning late Friday evening, Dec. 10 until the end of service on Sunday, Dec. 12, there will be changes to Lakeshore East GO train service.

GO trains will not run between Guildwood and Oshawa GO stations. By shutting down this section of track, construction crews can safely and efficiently get a lot of work done over the course of the weekend.

In particular, the rehabilitation of the117-year-old Rouge River bridge continues, a vital crossing for GO trains on the Lakeshore East Line. Crews will also be making additional track repairs to improve train speeds, service life, and reliability.

Metrolinx officials acknowledge that construction delays can be frustrating, especially after the recent week-long disruption due to the workplace fatality near Pickering GO, but this work is essential to long term service improvements.

The good news is this is the last weekend construction project currently planned for the Lakeshore East Line until Spring 2022.

Here’s everything you need to know if you plan on taking the Lakeshore East this weekend.

How do replacement buses work?

Replacement buses will only service Pickering, Ajax, Whitby, and Oshawa GO stations. For alternative transit options at Rouge Hill GO please use Triplinx to plan your trip.

To ensure GO bus drivers can be assigned to regularly scheduled GO bus trips, Metrolinx is working with Coach Canada to help get people where they need to go.

Coach Canada and GO buses will be available at Oshawa, Whitby, Ajax, and Pickering GO station bus loops to take people to and from Guildwood GO where customers can continue their train trip. GO staff will be on site to help guild riders and answer questions.

A temporary bus loop will be in the north parking lot at Guildwood GO to accommodate a bus bridge to/from Pickering, Ajax, Whitby, and Oshawa GO. Customers will need to transfer from platform 3 through the tunnels and follow the signs to the replacement buses.

GO Transit will accommodate customers travelling with bikes and pets, so they can get where they need to go.

GO Transit officials recommend Lakeshore East customers plan ahead before leaving the house as trips could take longer than usual.

Stouffville Line

Some Stouffville Line GO train times are temporarily changing this weekend, starting Friday after 10:00 p.m. Additional Stouffville train service is also being added at Danforth and Scarborough GO to provide Lakeshore East customers with more transit options to Union Station.

GO customers can use the GO Transit trip planning tool find station specific schedules here and as always, GO recommends checking the GO Transit website for updates.
