Why Laird Station is the longest on the Eglinton Crosstown LRT

It’s always good to have a little extra runway, even on transit projects.

That’s why the team that designed the Eglinton Crosstown light rail transit (LRT) project made sure Laird Station was extra-long.

At approximately 500 metres, Laird Station is one of the longest along the whole line. The extra length means there’s room for special tracks that allow for train storage and maneuvering.

At street level, crews are adding the finishing touches on the surface section between Brentcliffe Road and Kennedy Road. The newly installed green trackbed will cover 60 per cent of that street level section.

This is also where the recent Crosstown vehicle testing has been taking place.

On the eastern most end of the Crosstown route, crews are installing glass, tiles, and other finishes as Kennedy Station transforms from a concrete cavern into a modern transit hub.
